This is NoiseZero: Cut Silence, Remove Um, Kill Noise's own detailed draft of its privacy practices, written to accurately reflect how the app and backend actually work today. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer — that review is still required before public launch, particularly to confirm compliance with India's DPDP Act, GDPR (if EU users are in scope), and Google Play's Data Safety requirements.
Overview
NoiseZero cuts dead air and filler words from recordings. Silence cutting and basic noise reduction run entirely on your device. AI filler-word removal and cloud noise restoration briefly send audio to our server so a speech-recognition provider can process it, then delete it. This policy explains exactly what that means for your data.
Information we collect
An anonymous device identifier, generated on first launch — no name, phone number, or email required to use the free tier. If you choose to sign in with Google, we also hold your Google account ID (not your password) to sync your AI-Minutes balance and projects across devices. If you buy a subscription or AI-Minutes top-up, RevenueCat and Google Play share confirmation that a purchase happened — never your card details. If you watch a rewarded ad, Google AdMob collects standard mobile-advertising data under its own privacy policy, gated by the consent prompt AdMob's SDK shows you first. Play Integrity may send Google a device-attestation signal to confirm requests come from a genuine, unmodified install — this doesn't identify you personally. We do not collect your contacts, precise location, or data from other apps on your device.
How your audio is processed
Silence cutting and the free on-device noise-reduction pass never leave your phone — there is no upload for those. If you turn on AI filler-word removal or choose cloud noise restoration, a copy of that one recording is uploaded over an encrypted connection to a temporary, short-lived storage location, processed by our server, and forwarded to Deepgram (our speech-recognition provider) to detect words and timing. The uploaded copy is deleted as soon as that job finishes or fails — normally within minutes. We don't keep a copy, no one at NoiseZero listens to it, and it is never used to train any model.
Who else touches your data
We use a small number of service providers, each only for what they need to do their job: Deepgram (speech recognition for AI filler removal, discussed above), RevenueCat and Google Play Billing (processing purchases and subscriptions), Google AdMob (showing the optional rewarded and banner ads), Google Play Integrity (confirming requests come from a genuine app install), and Fly.io (hosting our backend, currently served from Singapore). None of them are permitted to use your data for their own purposes beyond providing that service to us.
How long we keep things
Uploaded audio: deleted immediately after processing, never kept longer than the job takes. Recordings and imported files that stay on your device: kept until you delete them — we have no way to see or touch those. Your device ID and AI-Minutes balance: kept for as long as you use the app, so your balance survives a reinstall if you're signed in, or until you ask us to delete them (see “Your controls” below).
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, and we don't run behavioural or cross-app tracking ads. The only ads in this app are an optional rewarded video (to unlock a feature for free) and a small banner shown to free-tier users — both non-personalized unless you've separately consented to personalized ads through the consent prompt shown where required.
Your controls
Microphone access is requested only when you tap record, never at launch, and you can revoke it any time in Android's app settings. You can delete any project from your library, which removes the audio from your device immediately, or wipe everything at once with “Clear all local data” in Settings. “Delete uploads after processing” is always on for AI filler cuts and cloud noise restoration — it isn't something we ask you to opt into. There's no server-side account system yet beyond your device ID and AI-Minutes balance — email us at the address below and we'll delete those on request.
Recording other people
If you record someone else, getting their consent may be a legal requirement where you are — that's on you as the person recording, not something this app can verify. We show a reminder before each take unless you turn it off in Settings.
International data transfer
Our backend currently runs out of Singapore, so processing your audio or account data means it briefly crosses borders even if you're recording elsewhere — most relevantly if you're in India or the EU. We rely on our providers' own standard safeguards for this (Deepgram's and Fly.io's data-processing terms); if you're in the EU, GDPR-specific transfer mechanisms still need legal confirmation before this policy is final.
Security
Uploads happen over encrypted connections to time-limited storage locations (the upload link itself stops working after a few minutes, whether or not it was used), and we don't store audio in plaintext anywhere longer than a job takes.
Children
This app isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters — what we collect, or how we use it — we'll show a notice in the app rather than silently updating this page.
